Help with 1D original firmware and err 99

Hi

Has anyone got a copy, it wont let me download from US website as it says latest version installed.

Taken a punt on an old 1D, nice condition but Err 99 when taking a photo, still records to CF. Also screen on back is white, so cant access menu, bottom Lcd also only showing half !

Is there any lithium battery or all powered by main battery.
Wont connect via firewire either.
Only salvation will be the charger.

Not sure why you'd want the original release of the firmware when the latest version is the best one to have?
Just sounds like the camera needs to be serviced?
 
ERR 99 is Unknown error ( very Helpful) but it's an error that comes up when one has occurred and there is no code for it.

I would be careful about changing the firmware with an unknown error being reported.Also you wont get a copy of the original firmware as far as I am aware as it is supplied on the camera, not on a CD

The battery is the main one, AFIK there was no Lithium alternative as the whole idea was a rechargeable system

Didn't make myself very clear, I just wanted the latest firmware, can't see how I'll be able to load it though as rear screen only shows White.

The cost of a canon service probably out weighs value of camera but might get a quote.

Yeh it'd be hard to do and just downright risky i think with the camera in it's current condition.
 
Hi

Found the lithium battery in the main battery compartment. Changed it, made no difference.
So it takes 1 photo, then err 99, wait about 8 secs then you can take another one.
Shame really lovely condition, only 20k on the shutter, but think I'll just stick it back on eBay.
Looks like a minimum fix is £150 plus parts.
I downloaded the factory repair manual, looks too complicated to risk opening it up.

Have you tried cleaning the lens contacts - also is the main battery in good condition?

Hi

Tried a few things, think I'll give up and re-ebay it as not working. It takes one photo then you have to wait about 8 secs. As rear display doesnt work you cant go into menus.
