Hi guys i need some help, I donot know if it is posible but i hope so.
I recently got back from a holiday in Egypt and my wife bought me a compact with an underwater case so i could take some pics whilst diving.
Got 2 full days worth of pics backed up but on the 3rd day when the camera was took off me when exiting the water they put it in a bucket of fresh water like they did everyother day, BUT this time when i got all my kit off and went to retrieve the camera it was sitting in the bottom of the bucket instead of floating on the surface. looks like someone has caught the catch with their mask strap and opened the caseing.
Now i had not switched off the camera before exiting the water so the camera is well beyond repair but i am hoping that the sd card will be retrievable, a couple of the contacts on the card seem to be tarnished, so my question is.

Is there anyway of getting the data off the card or will it be fried the same as the camera?????

I have tried putting it in the sd reder slot but the pc will not read it, really hope it can be saved as these where the best pics taken all week.

Thanks

There is image recovery software available but the computer normally needs to be able to see the card. So if its not then you may have to send it to a special image recover company.

I seem to recall an obscure tale of a trawler dredging up someone's P&S that fell off the side of a cruise liner. Whilst the camera was clearly broken, the SD card was readable and the owner was traced and reunited with their pictures!

However, if it's not working from the SD card reader then I'm afraid it's not looking good...

The card should be sealed. The contacts should have a gold coating so they shouldn't corrode

If the contacts still look gold and shiny and the card is dry ( Should be by now ) insert it in a card reader and see what you have got. Only problem maybe if the camera getting wet has caused a problem with camera writing to the card whilst it's switched on. However you have nothing to loose

Thanks guys for all the answers.

I looked at the terminal parts of the SD card and a couple where tarnished, this is why I thought that the camera had fried it, so i got a stanley knife blade and scraped very lightely onto the contacts and inserted it into the card reader and i am one happy bunny.
Over 200 photos from the last days dive flashed up on my screen, they are all down loaded now so thanks again
