hi folks,

..my last attempt to save my Sony a700 + Sigma 10-20

recently had my camera&lens returned from repair inspection(aj johnstone, glasgow), and i've phoned Sigma.
both are 'unwilling to untertake a repair because of possible future fungal & corrosive effects of Salt water ingress'

i feel that salt water got into my lens casing (long story) and short circuited the lens electronics, and fed back into my camera.

the camera had a very slight amount of water in the body behind the viewscreen, i feel the motherboard is ok, but it is showing error message, due to fucussing problem, and general problem communicating with lenses.

i cannot get replacement due to total lack of insurance,
i am looking for uk/scotland, contact, engineer, or home tech to replace lens electronics and maybe camera repair too.

not sure if new electronics will be feasable, but i'm not yet ready to write off my equipment until i try everything.

any suggestions appreciated.

thanks. Spencer. http://www.flickr.com/photos/9294904@N05/

If salt water has came in contact with the insides and the electornic components of your camera/lens, the only thing that is salvagable will be the casing of the body/lens. Salt water is pretty corrosive stuff. The items wont be worth fixing when you calculate the electronic parts needed plus the labour required to dismantle, investigate, test and then replace any or all the compontents. Sorry to say it but I would give up.

yeah i guess i'm clutching at straws with the camera,it would probably be a long, lost, project.
but i'd really like to save the lens if at all possible,..
i have tried the lens on my other camera, elements & optics are fine, with visibly clear test shot, only problem is no feedback/control of aperture.
it will probably be workable on manual for my landscape work if it is stuck on
f16 or smaller. haha.
..think it could be worth work if i could get the electronics ?

Its a real killer I am sure but unless you could fix it urself (saving the labour) and salvage the parts from other damaged/faulty lenses/bodies it would cost you a fortune.... house insurance?
