how can i take shots in auto focus without the flash coming on Ive disabled flash in the camera menu but i think it still works on auto settings is that true ?

In low light levels it may pulse the flash in order to get a reference to assist focussing. In green box or dummy modes it will decide it if wants to pop flash, shouldn't in manual or semi-manual modes.

Not 100% suer but dont think you can, think you will need to use Program (P)

auto focus is different to AUTO mode. in full Auto mode the camera will pop the flash up if it needs it.

Try using AV and selecting an aperture, the camera will choose the correct shutterspeed and the flash wont pop up till you tell it too!

Auto focus is done by a switch on the lens... af means auto focus, and mf means manual focus where you turn a ring on the lens and go by eye.

so to disable flash on the menu is only effecting the manual side of the camera and auto is going to do what it wants anyway yes ?

Do you use the "dreaded green rectangle" on the top dial.....AUTO mode???

What Janice said. Using full auto mode the flash behaves just as it would on a compact camera and pops up all the time if it feels that light levels /shutter speed are low. On AV you wont see the flash pop up at all unless you choose to pop it up yourself.

i try and use manual mode at all times but was just playing with my new toys i have disabled flash on the menu but like i said before dose the disable flash menu only work on manual setting and auto setting dose what it likes ?:bang:

whats wrong with the no flash setting on the dial? its the last one iirc.
