Help with choice on Panasonic G series.

A friend of mine who is new to digital photography has asked me about the above range of cameras, as I'm totally CanonI'd like if some Panny owners could give me the heads up as to which is the best model to choose, he's thinking of the G3 special for the olympics with the 14-42 and 45-200 lenses.
He's not particularly interested in video.
I've seen good comments on the forum about the G series, and would appreciate a few quick comments on this combination.

He feels DSLRs are a bit big for his needs.

That'll be a nice combo.... You can do better with the lenses but at a significant cost adder. I have the G3 and GX1 and find the viewfinder very useful on the G3 compared to the GX1.
 
Small, light and packed with features, easy to use, simple menu's etc, great evf and some very good lenses available from Panasonic and Olympus if he wants to spend more money.

The G3 is pretty good value at the moment with an influx of new shiney models.

Think my pal is going for the G3 now, thanks for the input.
 
Might be worth holding off for a few days. Rumour is the G5 will be announced in early July (i.e. next week), so there may be a further drop in G3 prices as stores try to offload the old stock.
 
Unless the G3 is an amazing deal or the buyer is in a real hurry for a camera, I'd hold fire for a couple of weeks. I'm sure the G5 is going to be announced soon ready for people buying a new camera for their summer holiday so that should trigger a drop in price on the G3.

I think the lens combo you've chosen is a pretty good starting point. I've got the 14-45 and 45-200 with my G2 and they're both lovely lenses.
