Help with extension tubes

I have a Nikon D7000 and would like to attempt some of the wonderful shots of insect life seen on this forum. I have a few lenses such as the Nikon 18-200, Tamron 70-300 and Tamron Macro 90.

However, having seen the quality of the shots using extension tubes, can anyone recommend a make/model?

I was considering these http://amzn.to/iiNj77 but I am not sure if the are 100% compatible with the D7000 and associated lenses I have. Thoughts?

I am also on the look out for a decent monopod. Again any advice appreciated.

You can get some pretty good insect photographs with the 1:1 magnification of your Tamron 90mm lens. Are you finding that's not enough?

To be honest I have tried yet. Not many insects around cold damp Scotland yet. I am building up some equipment to play with in the summer months. :)

Got some spare cash and thought a monopod, for football events I cover and extension tubes for some fun

In that case I wouldn't bother with extension tubes yet. First get used to using the lens you've got (it can take quite a lot of practice), then if you need more magnification, buy extension tubes.

The Kenko tubes you linked to will work fine with your lenses as they will maintain AF, metering and aoto aperture control. The full set (68mm) on your Tamron 90mm macro will give you about 2X magnification. Add a Kenko Pro DG 1.4 TC and you can get about 3X.

Bear in mind that you will probably need a flash as well.

Keep an eye on the classifieds here. I picked up a set of Kenko tubes here for about half of the price on Amazon.

many thanks Mike. I may hold off and watch the adds on here for things of interest. No point in wasting money and I am a novice at photography.
