Help with Fuji s2500hd

Hi

Got a Fuji s2500hd at Christmas and very happy with it. However when I turned it on today it has developed a strange noise. It sounds as if it is continually working with a faint whitting sound continously in the background. I have not noticed this before. Cound anyone tell me if this is normal or should I look further into this.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by whitting, but I'm wondering if it may be the autofocus mechanism you're hearing.

Try turning the camera on and put it on a table facing a wall, pointing away from you, and see if it quietens down after a few seconds.
Then, without touching the camera, wave your hand in front of the lens, and see it starts up the noise again.
If both those things occur, then I'd think it'd likely be the autofocus; if not, then I'm not sure what it could be, sorry.
 
sorry "whitting" should have read whirring. It sounds a bit like the computer does just now as if a motor is constantly running. I have tried the idea above (thanks by the way) but to no avail. It stops in playback mode. Plus I have tried turning off the AF continuous mode and the image stabilization. I cannot see why it has just started. Thanks for the reply though
