Well.... I plan to move out of my 'comfort zone' and try to ask for models and subjects to do some location shoots etc.

I really want to expand my poor portfolio of images and as the family are getting tiresome with me and my cam pointing at them all the time :bonk:

Being an amateur (but with great enthusiasm!) I will be attempting to ask for willing people to step forward and work with me to develop some funky fashiony / portraits but wanted to seek any guidance and advice from those who work with people alot of have even gone down that route and been on forums requesting tfcd models.

So

How do you go about it? select website fill in the profiles and upload some examples and then pm people? or request in the forums bit?

How do you conduct and structure the whole process? I want to be shown as keen and willing but then not come over as some dodgy dude with a camera! lol

How do you go about directing them? thats the bit I'm apprehensive about and know it will come with experience but do you plan a list of poses that you know will be on the money and then improvise depending on location and model?

Help appreciated! :)

Have a look at net-model.com, purestorm, modelmayhem, they all have TFP/TFCD models willing to work.

I am in the same position as you, and I am considering hiring a model with some experience, purely to try and progress more quickly.

net-model.com?

havent heard of that one. I will have a look after work. I take it they have a forum and a community as well?

Whereabouts are you?
I would be really tempted to try out the ISL studio group shoots as it seems like a good way to progress - learn from each other, good comments from the events, and decent set of images for you portfolio's - Problem is the distance from me!! :(

It seems like you're a lot more experienced from your gear and flickr site so i wouldnt have thought it would be much of an issue for you :)

A good way to start would be joining a flickr group which organises meets. There are a lot of strobist groups which meet up and do model shoots, a few regional ones too so you may have one near you.

I use Purestorm and ModelMayhem. Be prepared to send out loads of PMs on either as a lot of the time many models don't even have the courtesy to reply and say 'no thanks'. But there are a few serious and well-intentioned models on there, and you'd be surprised at what you can get on TFCD. My last model was very experienced but did TFCD because she enjoyed working with togs, and enjoyed helping new togs to get established.

cheers for the info guys.

I'll look on flickr and have already seen some interesting groups with images of the local area and a great tog who I will try to befriend :)

Chris - The model you last used is typically what I would like haha.. but anyone with some confidence and willing to learn together and some time to spend would be appreciated.

Appreciate the advice and suggestions.

Any advice on the procedure from contacting to arranging?

Yeah, forum, etc. I am based in Surrey and would definitely be interested if you are in the same sort of area.

Anyone know of any good Surrey based groups? I am willing to travel, obviously :)
