Would someone be kind enough to point me in the direction on how to use ND Grads? I have watched some vids on Youtube but I need an idiot beginners guide!
Try this. I did this video because of the problems people have with grads. From a VERY simple method to metering. if you get stuck let me know and I'll work you through it
Basically..... They are used to darken a part of the image - Usually the sky - & create a nice balanced single image without any loss of pure blacks/blown whites.
You can add grads in PP if you have full file information. You could take two shots & blend in PP if nothing in the scene is moving.
I find a 2 stop ND Grad is sufficient to capture enough detail which can be emphasised in PP. I use a hard edge much more than a soft edge.
For the cost of taking the missus out for a country pub lunch & a few drinks you can pick up a simple square filter grad set up as long as you aren't shooting too wide an angle.
