Right, i have some spare cash so after seeing it mentioned alot, reading a few reviews and seeing the Flickr group i have decided to go for the Samyang 8mm f3.5 Fisheye lens.

Its priced at between £207 - £300 depending on where you look with the cheapest price being on EBay from a polish seller while the £300 price is from Camera World. Have any of you's bought from the Ebay sellers for around the lower price? I'd rather buy from this country but maybe im being daft.

Now as i have around £400 the other lens i am considering is the Nikon AF-S 18-105mm VR lens that you can get as a kit lens with the D90.

At present i have the 18-55 and 55-200 kit lenses with my D5000 and was thinking of selling the 18-55 so that i could use this lens for most things. Am i being silly and would this be a waste of money considering i havnt had the camera long and havnt really used the 55-200? Also one other negative for me is that the filter size for the 18-105 is much bigger (67mm i think) than my other 2 lenses meaning none of my filters will fit it!
I even think ive talked myself out of it now
Any advice or feedback would help especially regarding the samyang ebay sellers.:)
Thanks, Phil

I was in the same boat with the d5000, but after replacing the 18-55 with the 18-105 I would say do it, i haven't regretted it. The only down side is the filter size but it saves having to change lenses every 5 min. Also the 18-105mm gives the d5000 a better balance in my poinion.

had play with a d90 and 18-105 lens the other day in jessops and it seems alot better than the 18-55 kit lens, quite a big lens aswell, i'll be looking at getting this particular lens when i eventually make my mind up as to what camera to get.

Never used the Samyang lens but it will be manual focus, do you really want a fisheye lens? They can be quite restrictive in there use. Have you thought about a wide angle lens instead?

As for the 18-105mm, I would recommend the 16-85mm. Great lens, sharper and better made compared to the plastic 18-105mm. I brought the 16-85mm instead of the 18-105mm when I brought my D90. Also consider the Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 which great lens with a faster Aperture.

As above......Tamron 17-50 and keep the 55-200mm.

I'm saving up for the 24-70 f2.8 as this is an awesome lens but it's £1200ish!! It's going to be a loooooong bit of saving. I have the 18-55mm on my D5000 and i think it's actually a very good lens. The sensor is good on the D5000 so spending some cash on a decent lens will really make images shine in the IQ stakes.

Thanks for the feedback mate. Ive just bought the filters aswell and have only used the ND8 so far.

It is a monster isnt it diameter wise.

I know it may be a novelty thing but i do want one... i have been pointed in the direction of Lensesforhire.co.uk where i could hire a Nikon Fisheye for £39 for 1 week to see if i really want one but im unsure as of what to do. Maybe i'll hardly use it but i suppose that could be said of a Macro lens. Hmm. With regards to the other lenses i'm all ears to recommendations and will look at them. I do like Macro aswell so would consider these type of lenses. I did have my eye on the Tamron 70-300mm which has a 1:2 macro setting also and can be had for around £140. Hmmmmm I find i know what i wnat until i have the money!

Wow, £1200 is way off what i would pay at this stage. As mentioned i'll take a look at the lenses mentioned.

How about the 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED AF-S VR DX? (Sell the 55-200mm)

Been looking at this on Flickr and for an all round walk about lens it looks very good indeed!! £527.99 at Park Cameras.

I like the idea of having just one lens covering the range of both of mine but i cant justify it right now considering ive only used the 55-200 once and only had it a month ish. I suppose had i known about photography before i bought the camera i mayve went down that route after abit more saving. You live and learn though eh. :)
Thanks for the headsup though:thumbs:

One of the best non f2.8 lenses is the nikon 18-70. A very good lens and 2nd hand can be had for around £120. Better iq than kit lens and any other sub £500 lens, although the tampon 17-50 probably is the best in this range.
