was Taking bird shots on holiday put a photograph up in birds thread for C&C but seems there is a lot of noise in the photograph would like to know how to avoid this in the future.... the Photograph was a crop as well would this give a lot of noise?

Thanks in advance for any info

John, looking at your latest Eagle shot, I would guess all the noise was down to a largish crop.

The EXIF for the shot shows the ISO was at 400, not very high for some cameras but I'm not well up on the 1000d.

The same shot below was quickly run through a noise reduction programme. It could be improved by masking the bird and just running the noise programme on the background.

Quick edit, though I fear the cropping is the answer to your problem here. As a very good bird tog said to me a while back "If you have not got the megapixels left after cropping, you will lose all detail", he was right.

I have quickly sharpened it and run noise ninja on the background.I`m sure others could do better, but it is a quick 5 min edit.
