I was going to head down to the Owl & Otter wildlife sanctuary in the New Forest today with my mother to take some phot's but it's looking pretty grim. Has anyone got any idea's for places inside or well covered as an alternative if the weather takes a turn for the worst? Only downside with going out with mum is that itmust be within an hour of Basingstoke...

Any idea's greatly appreciated...

Im in Lyndhurst - about 4 miles from otter & owl - it's a beautiful day, there is some diffused sunshine, and rain not expected till 3pm. :)

Thanks for the post, just copying the photos from otter&owl accross now...

Not holding up to much hope as it wasn't what I expected tbh, no way near as tog friendly as Cotswold Wildlife Park and couldn't believe how your kept back from the mesh fences, you live and learn, didn't help I had a call from work (must stop having a day off).

Some beautiful creatures there though...

beale park just outside reading well under an hour away hth mike  oops just seen you said today bit late but one to keep in mind for the future

I don't like shooting at the Owl & Otter wildlife sanctuary in the New Forest, very much.

The Hawk Conservancy near Andover is fabulous. You just know it's gonna be a good location when you see the cameras and lenses being walked around. I so recommend it.

Beaulieu is a good location, lots of different sorts of photography there and quite a bit under cover e.g. under cover motor museum, indoor historic house, abbey ruins, wildlife walks etc.

I've often thought Milestones museum in Basingstoke would be a good indoor location (if they allow photography), but I've never been there.

Owl and Otter as Steve says is not recommended for togging, they've gone overboard on fences beyond fences and the glass is filthy...

Hawk Conservancy is superb, only visited once and it's on the book to go back. Not thought of Beale park or Beaulieu, thanks

How about some of the national trust places, there are loads near basingstoke many with big houses and gardens.

Just be a little careful with National Trust places...

They are fabulous for private location photography and for practice but they've really tightened up on the copyright side of things. You're not allowed to National Trust sites for any commercial photography without permission.

There was a huge row a year or so ago when the National Trust changed the way they do things and a load of stock photographers really got cross with them. I don't know how it ended up, but it was getting pretty unpleasant so perhaps best to stay out of it and just shoot for you private use...at least until the dust settles and the situation becomes clearer.
