help with picking a new lens please

i recently got a nikon d70 with the standard lens it comes with and am now hoping to get a new lens but i pretty much have no knowledge on lens'.
im in college so i need a good all round lens that i can use for a variety of different types of photography and that will hopefully import the overall quolity of my images. hoping to buy second hand to save money as i dont want to be spending hundreds on one just yet, hoping to find a decent start off one for about £150 (student budget!)
any help guys?

A good all rounder would be something like the Nikon 18-135 or 18-105 (kit lenses with the D80 and D90 I do believe so shouldn't be too expensive ). However, if you want a bit more reach on the zoom end and don't mind sacrificing a bit of overall image quality, an 18-200 is a good idea The Tamron one is the cheapest (what's your budget?) and is quite good for what it is! If you'd like some sample images from my one, let me know!

Well it has the 18-55 VR with it - thats a cracker! I would suggest you get a 55-200 range or similar. BTW, I have emailed you/and pmd but not got any answer..??
