Hi, I have just got myself an Epson 7880 and would like like to know when I have to use matt black ink? I have read how to change from photo black ink but not why. Thanks Paul.
For papers that are matt based, ie Matt paper, fine art papers etc.
Do your self a favour and save a fortune. unless you really need to print on matt type papers with it dont change inks as it will cost you a fortune especially if done on a regular basis.
Paul, the printer profiles are set up for particular blacks either matt or gloss. If you do use different papers you do need to change them but if you rarely use a particular type of paper then I would probably avoid it as changing cartridges tends to require a clean cycle and this uses a bit of all 9 inks!

congrats on getting the 7880 ... might go down that route also .. ive been using the Epson 7600 A1 chrome ink large format jobbie for a few years now .. great results too !
As mentioned in earlier posts dont bother changing the black inks .. it uses bucket loads of ink to recharge the system so it is clear of the earlier ink ... not worth it really ..
