Help with processing this please!!

I took this late on at Arley Hall at the Levellers gig. I quite like the composition but I can't seem to get the processing right, it still looks a little dark to me.

If anyone can have a little go I would be obliged. Oh and if you could tell me what you did I'll try it myself tonight.

Top stuff guys, I don't know which I like best now. I use PS elements 6 and am i right in thinking this does not have the curves facility?.

Andy, I used GIMP to make that edit, which is completely free (work PC). Element's doesn't have curves, unless....

You add this free plugin.

Red channel- lift with curves.
Correct white balance a little.
Add some colour luminance and a little saturation.
Lift contast of whole image using 'curves' made into a very gentle 's' shaped curve.

The background wasn't actually red though?? ... still, it works for me.

My attempt:

Used DCE plugins to correct white balance and increase exposure by half a stop,
then boosted saturation slightly.
