Help with removing background

I really like this photo of my baby, but my sons sock spoils the background, is it possible to put it onto a dark background instead?

Hopefully this will work, I am using photobox and can't work out how to make the image appear on the post.

That's simple to remove, select the background area and colour it in black, then use the dodge/burn tool to darken the background area around the baby blending it in.

Wow that looks great, thanks - I've only got photoshop 7 and I'm useless with it!
