Got 10 Freecom USB2 External Hard Drives Need to copy 10Gb of data to each.

Now the Freecom's copy at 400k / sec

But if I plug in one of my cheapo ebay drives it copies at 8.2MB / sec

So 15mins to copy compared to 4 or 5 hours.

Any ideas? On my Win7 PC.

Tried with another cheapo one, and get 9 MB / Sec

But the Brand New Freecom ones are poo.

to be honest id concider freecom to be at the bottom of my list (next to maxtor) when it comes to hard drives.

providing they are definately USB 2.0 then it could just be a cheap slow controller in the enclosure and/or drive. unless the freecom requires its own specific drivers to work at full speed.

Thanks, but the drives are for work and not for me, hence the brand.

Found the problem ***.... Had to use the cable that came with the Freecom, no getting 7MB / sec

Weird, but true.

Yep, both leads are double, plugged into a powered USB2 Hub, just tried again, defiantly only the Freecom one lets the drive run at full speed. Yet my other drives work at full speed on the original lead, how odd.
