hi, i have been doing photography for a number of years now, and own a panasonic dmcfz238 camera and now i am diversing a bit.........i part of a local paranormal team and i am one of the photographers for the team as i have an expensive bridge camera......what i am wanting to know is......

what is the best settings for night vision / full spectrum? do i need lens converters etc??

what is the best way of taking ir shots both in the day and the night (total darkness)???

Unfortunately, no current digital cameras will give you full spectrum (IR-visible-UV) without physical modification; the UV/IR filter is fitted over the sensor, and isn't designed to be removed by the user. While there are some firms that offer a conversion service for various dSLRs, I don't recall them offering the service for bridge or compact cameras.

One (cheap) option you could look at is the Sony F707 - the internal filter flips out of the way when you switch to it's night vision mode, and it has a built-in IR illuminator for taking pics in total darkness. It's not designed to be used in IR/night vision mode in daylight though.
 
What you need is an FLIR machine which registers areas of different temperature as different colours. Not cheap but a fun toy!

If you have a iPhone 5/5s you can now get a phone case FLIR camera for less than £200. :wideyed:
The manufacturer appears to be working on an Android/iOS plug-in unit too.

Not quite true, have a look at companies like Infraready on ebay http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Infraready plenty of bridge and compact cameras.

I bought a full spectrum Nikon J1 from him last year, he couldn't have been more helpful, actually lending me a camera before I bought!! I use mine for IR photography and use it in conjunction with an Hoya R72 filter
 
thanks for the reply, as stated in the first post i am part of a local paranormal team and do a lot of night time photography in some very dark places, lol and sometimes flash is not an option, the camera i have is a panasonic dmcfz38, i have got a uvc lens adaptor, a polarizing lens, and two ir lens one of which is a 720nm and the other is a 900nm.
