Help with strange monitor fault...

Hi all,

I've built myself a new computer and am running 2 screens. I have an LG 22" monitor and also a 17" Dell monitor both run off a Radeon HD 6750 graphics card on windows 7.

The problem I have is that the LG 22" screen doesn't display in full size when using the HDMI cable. I've set it to the recommended resolution and it leaves a gap of around an inch either side of the displayed image and around half an inch top and bottom. If I switch to use the DVI-D cable it displays full screen? :cuckoo:

Normally this wouldn't be an issue as I'd just use the DVI-D cable, however I use this port to run the other monitor. I can get the LG to go full screen with the HDMI cable, but I need to run it at a lower resolution and then it doesn't display perfectly.

Has anyone got any idea's on how to get the picture to the correct size when using the HDMI cable and set at the optimum resolution?

p.s. I have installed all of the latest drivers for the motherboard, graphics card and monitor.

Is there an overscan (1:1, pixel map) setting anywhere on the LG? Also, is the resolution via HDMI and DVI the same?
 
I had this fault when i had two different size screens. I had to buy another screen the same and it fixed its self. So get hold of another 22" screen :)
 
You need a HDMI to DVi converter

Sorry, I think I've not explained this very well. The second screen isn't an issue as I can independently change the resolution per screen. It only becomes an issue because I need the DVI port to run the second screen which means I have to use the HDMI port for the main screen. This is why I need to use HDMI as opposed to the DVI which would be the easy option.

I shouldn't really need to use any adaptors to run the HDMI as both screen and card have HDMI so should be compatible. What I don't understand is why the screen size would be any different depending on which digital cable I use?
 
Re converter, it was to try the Dell monitor from the HDMI port.

Is your HDMI cable ok? I have one that will not work with the PS3 but works with everything else, I also have an esata cable like that too.

Ok, the Dell screen runs VGA so would be HDMI-DVI-VGA. quite long winded, but could work I suppose. The GC has a display port output so could get a DP-VGA adaptor.

Its a new HDMI cable so should be ok. I have a spare downstairs though so I'll try that and then let you know.

Have you tried reversing the monitors under W7, meaning switching which one is no1 and no2, does it carry across the non filled screen.
Try changing extended screen settings, anything to see if you can fill the screen.
I suspect it's the overscan settings, I know you've altered them. What about the auto detect reset button on monitor to see if it corrects.

What resolution is the computer saying is the preferred resolution when you have the 22" connected via HDMI? It should be 1920x1080. Also, what's the refresh rate being set to?

It makes no odds which is no.1 or no.2. I can get it to fill the screen when resolution is set to 1680*1050, but it's soft and image quality isn't as good as it could be. The auto button comes up and says HDMI 1080p but the screen size still stays small.

I think it's simply that you're setting the monitor to a different resolution to the native, which shouldn't do this but... For serious work it's a big mistake not to use a native resolution.
 
Fixed it!

I found the settings for the graphics card and adjusted the overscan setting which for some reason was on around 8%. Set to 0% and bingo!

For anyone serching this the Radeon settings are found by searching your programs for CCC and then you can change settings in there.
