Help with Teleconverter.

Hi ,
I have recently bought a Sigma 120-300 2.8 OS, and I am toying with the idea of buying myself a converter to go with it.
My question is "do I go for the 1.4x or 2x.
My camera is a 7D
Your thoughts and suggestions would be welcomed. :)
 
Search recent threads from 'micloi' he's tried a few different combos.

But doesn't the asnwer depend on how much reach you need? If it's always towards the long end, you might be better off with a 100-400L, or 400L 5.6 prime. Advantage of the Sigma is a) the f/2.8 bit, and b) the zoom.

It's reputed to be a very good lens, but a relatively expensive and heavy option if you don't often need those things.

Would suggest using the sigma TCs with this lens. With the 1.4x TC you lose 1 f-stop (168-420mm f4) and the autofocus is hit, but IQ's shouldn't be effected. With the 2x TC you lose 2 f-stops (240-600mm f5.6) and autofocus is definitely hit for six, your lens will hunt if autofocus is lost.
If you've got enough light to use the lens and 2x TC and still achieve reasonable camera settings the 2x TC will still work well, I've got some great action shots using the canon 300mm and 2x TC, even stacked the 1.4x and 2x TCs on my 300mm and still got some great shots of wildlife and I've seen some good motorsport images with the sigma setup, but you need the right conditions (good light) to get the best from it.
 
I have the same setup, 7D Sigma 120-300 and both 1.4 and 2X this was shot with the 2X and so far I've not experienced any focusing problems or a lack of IQ

arty man which one do you prefer or use the most 1.4 or 2 ??
