In the studio, I put a attach to the wall, a bit of strapping about 75% of the width of the frame (I use a £40 B&Q nailgun, think 5 seconds per hanging ). The wood I use is about 1/2 an inch deep, meaning the frame just hangs snuggly via the top frame supoort.
WARNING:
Most cheap frames I have tested will NOT work with this method, as the top support will buckle / bend or detach from the rest of the frame due to it holding the weight of the rest of the frame. The frames I currently use though, even the largest, are absolutely fine.
The benefit of this system? I can slide the frames left and right at ease to ensure they all align perfectly....
The con's of this system? It is born if my own mind, and therefore, is probably doomed to fail one day
Gary's suggestion may work if the frames are strong enough but if not then the wire may be the only sensible option other than the brass style fixing plates.
Post a pic if the frame and we may have more of an idea
Nick
PS what type of wall is it that you are fixing too
