Ok here it is i live in the North east and really don't know the area that well.

WEll the thing is i have a friend coming to see me and she is rather good at this phootgraphy lark. What i am needing to know is where around the darlington ish area is good for sunset or sunrises..now knowing this person with i about an hours drive..i think but any ideas will looked into.

Thank you.

Terri

You are lucky here in that sun rises and sunsets tend to be fairly widespread. If there is a good sunrise in one part of your area, chances are it'll be good in another. They don't tend to be better or worse in any particular spot, at least not in any predictable way anyway.

Why not go for a drive or walk, get off the A roads and motorways and find a landscape or view that interests you and then photograph that at sunrise or set. Bare in mind that with a compass and a watch you can know exactly where and when the sun will rise and set so you can plan accordingly.

thank you for that great help will get the map out think it's just a great part of the world and it's hard to pick a spot

Penshaw Monument - just off the A1/A19 next to Scumderland...good for sunsets, but a bit of a climb up there.

EDIT - ok Darlington is more south than I thought (why did I always think it was right next to Durham?

Barnard Castle area, or just over the other side of the A66 is the Yorkshire Dales. Lovely views there, though can't comment on the sunsets/rises. I'm never up early enough, or out late enough. :D

Jimmy thank you now i hadn't thought of that i am abit out of darlington so it's not too far away from me..thanks for reminding me of that

keep them coming peeps thank you

If you can get to Durham railway station there is a fab view of the cathedral and my old home (the castle). Best time is just after sunset where there is some colour in the sky i.e. those brill dark blues.

thanks Simon.... another to the list....and i know where you mean i think

again thanks everyone

Have a look at an OS map of the area and pick out the highest hills (close to roads - your visitor's only got short legs!). East coast should be good for sunrises or again, seek the high ground to look down onto the layers of autumnal mists.

thanks Nod....will do that as well have a few ideas now...Must remember the blinking coffee this time or i am dead..
