Hello all I'm a neebie here. My names Laura 26, from the Wirral.

I have joined this site to get as much of your fabulous advice as possible.

I started photography in October and have a Canon 450D. At the moment I am trying to read as much as possible and trying to learn my camera insideout.

Since then i have been working for a website covering clubbing events in liverpool to gain some experience.

I covered a 21st birthday party back in October which i done as a favour for a friend but following this a number of people have asked me to do events (christenings, portraits, parties) coming up in the next few months.

Remember i am still really new to this, especially day time shooting as I usually go out at night.

I was just wondering if any of you had any tips on what i should be charging to start with (should i charge a cover fee or just for prints / both??)

Also i have heard costco is a good place to get prints done but is there any other places I could get them done cheaper.

Also where is a good place for albums??

Thanks, I hope your all having a nice day

Hello there.

This would be a good place to start. Have a read through and see what you make of it.

I can honestly say I've never hear good things about Costo, but equally I've never heard bad things. But when you're considering printing your photographs out, you've got three factors to think about: cost, quality of results and speed of service.

Alas, you can't have the best of all three, so pick two and you'll have to deal with the third being whatever it may be.

The usual mail-order suspects are Photobox, Loxley Colour, togsPrint and a fair few others whose names escape me momentarily.

Also where is a good place for albums??
What sort? Empty ones?

Are you working for Skiddle.com out of interest?? Oh, and welcome!! :D

Candlestick - I work for www.tilllate.com :)

Most welcome.

Unfortunately I can't be of any further assistance to you with some recommendations for albums. I wouldn't even know where to start, so hopefully we'll get someone more knowledgeable than me coming along in due course.

thanks for the tips anyway. Any idea to a hosting site that my pictures can be displayed from a direct URL?

For example www.photos/lawsphotography ???????????

get what i mean?? So if i gave pictures out they could find there pics on that link?? xx

I would say that flickr sounds right up your proverbial street, although I may be misinterpreting your question slightly.

And then, what you might want to do, is register www.lawsphotography.com from somewhere and use the free web-forwarding option to send people to your flickr page.

And in due course, when you deem it necessary, you can start to build a 'proper' website up and then host it in place of the flickr link. People will still be visiting the same URL, but they'll be getting a nice website to look at instead.

EDIT: In case you want something slightly more advanced, have a thorough read of this which ought to point you in the right direction.

You have to purchase and register a URL first. I would imagine any reputable web-hosting company would offer you free web-forwarding, which is usually accessible from within your domain's admin control panel once you've completed registration.
