I seem to have a problem with my d200 I'm hoping it's user error or a setting I can't find. When I take a photo the DOF button has to be pressed or the viewfinder remains dark. Any ideas anyone :thinking:
 
Sounds like a problem with the aperture control lever on the camera body.

It is obviously making some contact, as the preview button opens up the aperture.

Looking at the camera with the lens removed it is at 9.00 o'clock just behind the mounting flange, it may be slightly bent.
 
Was going to take a photo of the lever but my point and click needs charging. Will post up a photo or two a little later. Thanks for the info Martyn. Don't forget to pop back later :) If it is what you say, is it fixable by me or will it need a service centre? I hope not.

The lever should be straight, the one on my D300 is, and has a 'v' shaped profile, as to your capabilities I cannot say, have a look first.
 
OK that looks as if it has been pushed to the left and is wedged against that black odd shaped protruding lug.

It needs easing back away from that black lug, towards the mirror.

I shall take a head on shot of my D300 one and post up.
 
could maybe do with a comparison shot knowing me I would bend it the wrong way.

Sorry about focus on this one but it shows a good head on shot where the lever should be.

 
THINK it is sorted now. Will give it a good try out. Keep this thread open for a day or two though :) I'm very happy it is not a service centre job though so thanks again for the advice Martyn.
 
Still the same. I'm a little worried about bending anything in the camera to be honest. I took it to my camera club and a couple of the blokes had a look and think it may be an internal part that has failed. One has a d200 so we are going to compare it next week. Hoping I don't have to pay out for repairs :(

Looks like a repair shop job if the internal part has failed, hope not, could be a few quid.
 
Changing the lenzez in a rush can do that,bend the arm back straight........:thumbs:
 
I bit the bullet and gave it a good tweaking and it's looking good and hasn't done it since. Martyn and fracster. I wouldn't have tried this without your advice and help. ty both for taking the time to help me. :clap::clap:
