Hi all
I have a choice a sigma 170-500 or a nikor 70-300 vr.
They are similar price the sigma has a lot more reach but no vr and no hsm.
I will mainly be using the lens for birds / wildlife and climbers.
The other lenses I have are the nifty 50 and 28 1.8 sigma.
These both take great images. I had a go with the nikon and it was pretty great image wise but will i miss the extra reach ?

For birds and wildlife you would miss the 500mm end of the sigma (sometimes even 500mm is not enough!! so 300 would fall well short),if I were you I would be tempted to for go both and look for a 150-500 OS instead which would give you the 500mm reach and optical stabilisation ,they can be picked up quite reasonably and offer excellent value for money.Hope this helps.
