Help!

Just looking for a few opinions on the sigma 24-70mm f2.8. It seems pretty good from the reviews I've read so far but would really love an honest, experienced opinion and comparison to the 17-55mm f2.8 by canon in image quality. This would really help

There are several versions of the sigma, and they all perform slightly differently.
The latest HSM version at around £500 is considered the best, followed by the macro and finally the old DG EX.

I had the DG many years ago, it was my main lens and it was ok for the type of stuff I was doing at the time which didn't require critical sharpness.

If I had a choice between either of the sigmas and the canon 17-55... It's a no brainer. The 17-55 is the sharpest lens in it's class and some would say a more suitable length on a crop camera.
