I currently own a 500D and I am looking for a new lens. I was considering either a 24 or 28mm lens.
At the minute I have the 18-55mm kit lens and the 55-250mm lens.
What would you recommend as my next lens? I was thinking of doing more portraits and street photography.
I also considered investing in a flash, but I'm not sure how much I would use one at present.

if its an AF lens it wont auto focus only manual.. you really need to look at EF lens

I am NOT an expert on lens.. but I am pretty sure thats correct.. BUT would advise you wait for other responses to see if I am right.. pretty confident I am though :)

Do you have any recommendations for a lens in the 24-28mm prime range that isn't going to break the bank?
 
I'm going for the tamron 17-50 non VC as my next walkabout lens.

Edit: I also picked up a Yn 460 MK2 speedlight from here for £20 and wireless trigger + receiver for a tenner.
