I've only recently got my first DSLR so this is my first post in this section. Saltholme is a bird reserve that has recently opened near me. Last weeks visit was solely for me to plonk myself in a hide and have a play with my new camera. Camera is Canon 450D and I used Sigma 100 - 300mm lens with a 1.4x converter. Unfortunately the images are handheld as I've yet to buy a tripod.

Very good :) It looks like you are getting to grips with your new camera! They're nice and clear images...and sharp to boot :)
 
Good start with your new camera. Well done. Can't help but think the Heron is having a bit of a bad hair day in the first picture! Perhaps they should change their hair stylist!
 
Saltholme is already turning up some interesting species, and when fully open should provide plenty photo opportunities. Good first post in the bird section.

Bless him - he's being monitored by the rangers at the reserve as his right wing was damaged. He did look very windswept though...lol.
 
Superb shots! One and Four are great - clear and sharp!

Reminds me of some character from a Dickens novel :)
