Hi Newbie and help with a lens.

Hi everyone newbie on the site and to cameras really.

I like to take pictures of some pets that I keep mainly but it is used as a general use camera as well for holiday pictures etc.

I recently got a new camera which is a Panasonic Lumix FZ45 -

Did I choose a good camera?

I have taken some pictures with this and it seems to do the job for me to a certain degree but sometimes I need to get a little closer to the animal so I use the macro option. This does take nice pictures again but some pictures just need to be that tiny bit closer so im guessing I need another lens or adaptor.

Are there nay available for this camera and how good are they, plus any other tips would be great.

Hi Gary - welcome!

If I know the camera you are talking about its a bridge camera which doesnt have interchangeable lenses.

However, as you say you can get a lens convertor to fit in front of the lens and you can buy a macro lens to fit over that or about £130 or so. I think that will be your best bet, but this again is designed for macro shots (very close).

Amazon stock the lens and the adaptor, that'll get you nice macro shots.

Hi thanks for the quick reply, I have read that this camera is a hybrid type to fill the gap between compact digital and SLR cameras.

It doesn't look like I can remove the lens and have found the convertor and lens you are talking about.

I was just wondering what the opinion of more experienced people than myself have to say about the camera and if the lens to adapt is any good.

I only wanted a camera that is a bit of an all round one as well as being able to produce a nice macro shot. Plus it was a present so had no say in it.
