I went Cokin > Hitech > Lee.
I would save for the long term and get some Lee's if you are serious about using them. I found that the Hitech would leave a slight colour hue on the image, and being colour blind, spotting this was impossible. Lee's are the way IMO

Have a look on Progrey filters. That's what I'm using right now for my landscape shots.

I have some of the cheaper hitech resin filters that I bought a few years back and the 10 stop and 4 stop and ND grads have distinct colour casts.
I have since bought 10 and 6 stop hitech firecrest filters and ND grad firecrest and these have no colour cast even when stacked and are closer to Lee prices but can be found cheaper on amazon than the hitech site.
Lee big and little stoppers also leave a blue cast but easily removed in PP apparently.
The firecrest are glass filters which I find easier to use as they don't scratch or attract dust like the resin ones. Lee ND grads are resin at similar price as Hitech firecrest glass.
Lee holders are dearer than Hitech; Lee are easier to find in stores than Hitech.
If price is a concern the SRB filters seem to get good reviews.

Look out for a second hand Lee set on here. I got a foundation set with a big stopper, 77mm adaptor ring, three hi tech nd grads, and a filter pouch for around £220. Now way I could've done it new.
