Anyone use a hide clamp on here with a Wimberely head or equivalent? If so, what one? :)

saw a bloke using one yesterday with a 500/4 + wimberely and it's just what i'm after (can leave tripod legs in the car then)

cheers

having just looked at that, no, nothing like it :) looks a very over enginered piece of kit, and wouldn't trust anything that attached to the glass as side windows are easily breakable

it was like a g-clamp that you'd use in woodwork but a kinda square shape and must of had an attachment thread on the top to screw in the gimbal

this could work

only thing i don't own a 28mm manfrotto tripod column, i have a 28 mm benro one

is there any difference in the shape of the column between benro/manfrotto or does the manfrotto one have that groove down it as well?

Depends on the hide as a lot of shelves aren't very stable.

I have a Kirk Window mount and regularly use it with a 500 from the car and it can be used as a ground pod too. I've never cracked a window (although I admit it is possible) as the mount passes the weight into the car door and not through the glass.

For hide work, a Manfrotto SuperClamp and the accessory they do to take a tripod head can work very well indeed but it needs a sturdy shelf.

Paul, I love you that's exactly what it was, gonna order one - just need to get a slightly bigger spigot for the gimbal thread size - think it's 3/8

Manfrotto 208HEX (available from WHE) is what I use. Fits the clamp and feels more sturdy than the standard issue spigot. It's actually a tripod top plate to fit in the Superclamp and it takes my Wimberley and 500/4 just fine...

*edit* just read your post, same thing lol - cheers, will get those ordered today

To be honest Drew, I would not like to put my faith in too many hide shelves to support a very expensive bit of kit.

Tripod and /or monopod every time for me mate.....

:) see what you're saying, will have the legs with me as well incase - just a bit of a space saver option, shelves on my local hides seem to be pretty sturdy....will deffo approach new ones with caution though :)

I would have thought a bean bag would be a better option, people knock shelves when sitting down and standing up I find and the shelves vibrate like crazy.
