High-end bridge cameras: Sony RX10, Panasonic FZ1000 etc

S couple more RX10iv questions if anyone knows and can help please..
How easy is it to transfer images to a phone - my Fuji had an app that was awful (it's been upgraded now and is much better but still fairly slow)
And is it possible to set thew ISO to automatic and adjust both aperture and shutter speed to suit using dials rather than going into the menu?
Thanks for any help!
Transfer to phone - yes it can be done but it's not part of my usual workflow so can't help there sorry
I use auto ISO all the time now - dead easy to set and works well. Aperture is set using the ring on the lens, and shutter speed via the front dial iirc but not a mode I used very often

Thank you yet again Mike. Really appreciate it.
The transfer to phone thing is so that I can share pictures of my trip to Vietnam with family back here. I'll see what I can find out in the shop tomorrow.

Just use the imaging edge app on your phone, on the camera go to menu and network 1/ snd to smrtphn func/sent to smartphone/slect on this device then choose this image, all with this date or multiple images then scan the code with the app and off you go. hope this makes sense Steve ;)

OK Alby and Mike, I might be about to let let you down a little.
I had a good look at the rx10iv and ended up thinking it was just too big for me to take on a trip to Vietnam. I've still got a month to work out what to do/get but it may have to be a smaller sensor compact..

If you want to take poor quality photos that is absolutely your prerogative!

Well, I tried a Panasonic Lumix TZ99 for a few days and learnt a few things.
I can't get on with small cameras and I really need a viewfinder.
I wear glasses for close-up stuff and just couldn't stand the faff of getting my glasses out, putting them on so I could see the screen on the TZ99, my fingers kept on pressing buttons so I needed to get my glasses out again to see what I'd done.
I've returned it and am now looking for a RX10iv (actually I'm pretty sure I've found one) so after a few years of faffing about I may soon be one of you lot!

Funny, I was exactly the same with the RX100 - great little cameras but just too small and fiddly for me.

I'm sure you'll get along famously with the RX10iv - I still can't come to terms with selling mine even though I have an A6700 and 70-350 now...

Thanks for sharing your trials and tribulations with the move away from the RX10
I’m still battling what the best route is that I should go down - I make my basket with an array of lenses to cover similar focal lengths etc and I always come back to if I’d be better going for the all in one solution, skip on the faff of swapping lenses, resist the temptation to always want to upgrade or buy another lens etc etc.

I think that many of us have that dilemma. The solution for me is to have mirrorless with lenses & top end bridge camera for the times when conveniance is the priority. I really wouldn't be able to choose if I could only have one or the other.

My one stop camera is the Leica V-LUX which is basically Panasonic TX1000. I opted for the red dot version as it was actually cheaper than the Panasonic second hand. It isn't as good at macro than the S1 and 24-105 lens, but reaches almost 4 times longer. I would need two grand's worth of optics to match the range of the V-LUX. The aperture range is limited compared to the S1, but it is adequate for most of my needs and the image quality is good enough to have photos accepted by image libraries despite having a smaller sensor. I don't claim that the V-LUX is as good as the S1, but you'd be hard pressed to see the difference in online images.

I don't think there's any definitive answer or insight to give - it very much depends on what you're photographing and how seriously you're taking it. I retired quite recently and have more time to spend on photography rather than just snapping what I see when out for a walk, hence looking at a more dedicated kit rather than the one-size-fits-all solution (eg RX10iv). Having said all that there's still a non-zero chance that I might end up selling the whole lot except the RX10 if I don't get the use of the new stuff!

I've been in the same situation a few times while I dithered about trying to work out what to do.
I've now got a used rx10iv but not really had a chance to use it yet. First hurdle I've come across is trying to connect it to my phone, something that may be important for my trip to Vietnam (I've bought an on-the-go lead and card reader just in case) It's not as complicated as I'd feared being menu-based rather than my Fuji's knobs and dials. I do like the size of it and think I'll get used to it fairly quickly. As@Clive K says, the convenience of not having a bag of gear may mean that I end up keeping both the rx10iv and my fuji X-T5..
Good luck, and thanks to all the contributers to this thread for the help you've given me!

Nice shot Alby! Any thoughts on the Panasonic DMW-LT55 1.7x ? Not something I was aware of ...
I don't use it as much as I should Mike but it works pretty well for that extra reach,
Plus paired with the latest editing tools these day I am more than happy with the results I can get from it.

Yes it does Mike but l only use it for the extra reach to be fair, it vignettes up to about 350mm. Useful 1024mm give you a bit more reach.

72-55 step down ring to connect it.

In the right conditions it works pretty well Mike. As I said before, paired with the latest editing software you can get half decent results.
