Using my sb d700 on the mrs d3200 it does not appear to allow the shutter spied above 1/200th. So, is HSS a function if the speed light and the camera? I thought the clever bit was in the speed light. But maybe not.
 
With Canon it's purely speedlight dependant, I believe Nikon also need the camera to be compatible.
 
Yeah, it should have it really, like Phil says, Canon make the flashes have it then at least you get the choice to buy it or not.

Nikon have 1/250*FP and 1/320*FP on cameras enabled with HSS... or at least mine does... (y)
 
This is one of those issues that leads me to say that at the bottom end Nikon win on build quality, but Canon spend on features.

And it's not a partisan thing, I hate the low end Canon's for their ergonomics.
 
Spot on phil. Was looking at the build of the d3200 and well impressed. To be fair I was surprised it did not have HSS. It has most other things that allow me to pick it up when I need something lighter and quieter than the d700.
 
Put the flash in manual mode and adjust it yourself...
 
There's the Dark side or the Bright side...You chose the Dark . :p
 
You can take a shot with sync on see the exposure etc and note the flash settings then adjust the flash settings accordingly to the new exposure. This way it will save you a lot of messing around and trial and error.
