No
Went to a former Local Mental Asylum which has now shut down... must add that this place is going to be under development very soon but security is tight due to hordes of 'Urbex explorers' breaking into the place
I did not go withing 200yrds of the place and they came out being agressive about taking pictures etc
that aside the place is a fantastic building steeped in history so before its altered too much thought I would pop along with my camera

I like the first shot the most. Look a little soft to me though?

Nice tones, and great framing though.

Good job, pal.

Urban explorers don't "break" into places, just for your information, those are called chavs, vandals and metal thieves

cheers guys
no.1 does look soft I think the processing has lost a lot of the information in the image as the original raw looks pretty sharp - as for tilted I used a grid ref on the bottom of the building so cant be far out
I think I will have another go at 1 to retain some more detail, I tend to play around with an image 'overly' long and making a pigs ear of it sometimes LOL
thanks for looking in

Urban Explorers do no break into places or cause damage!

Thats generally done by those in society who pay no taxed and have no fixed abode, steal anything thats not bolted down strip wire, steal metal and smash evertything else!

Thanks for posting these it brings back a lot of memorys. I like both of them.

Carbon Angel and Slippery.

Why so defensive and accusatory?

Buttkicker says he wittnesed Urbexers being aggresive towards him. You wern't there so you don't know who was there.

Anyway back to your daily mails lads...

I got the impression he was talking about the security being aggressive?

No matter....very nice images.

The way I read the OP is that security were aggressive not urbex, or am I missing something.

Perhaps the OP can clarify this?

Hardly overly defensive against his sweeping statement of a hobby a few on here enjoy, those involved know that true Urban explorers are probably more respectful of an environment than the owners and never break in.

I believe his aggressive comment was more towards security, thanks.

I agree with geoff. It has the Dunham Massey feel to it. That place is full of weird Hale Barns and Bowdon Sunday folk too - but only when the sun is out and the stags are rutting!!
Nice shots tho Chris. Id love to see inside!

I must apologise if it reads that Urbexers came out and were aggressive it was actually the security guards who came out being aggresive ranting about the urbexers and taking pictures of private property

that said I really like some of the images the so called Urbexers get but I do feel that Carbon Angel and Slippery were being defensive about this when Urbexers are clearly getting into these places with out permission so word it how you like but Tresspassing/breaking in whatever is against the law

I think some of the images are very good but that does not alter the fact that on most of the 'Urbex' sites a lot of the Togs are wearing Masks when they snap themselves so why do that if what they are doing is within the Law

.. why do that if what they are doing is within the Law

Because it makes them look cool of course. :p

Nice classic images, I find the second more interesting. Though I think the first is suffering from some very bad JPEG compression. The softness was the first thing that struck me, and I'm sure you're more than capable of producing a sharp image when you want to. There is also a lot of banding evident in the sky, which is no doubt the dodgy compression again. (y)

the so called sweeping statement was what the security guards told me - but after looking at the huge amount of threads on the various Urban sites and the storys about how they evaded the security at Highroyds and other establishments
Most photographers on this forum will not be wearing masks and hiding from security while climbing tower cranes and Highrise hotel roofs etc while going out taking photographs

having said all of the above I myself dont believe that the majority of the Urbexers actually damage the property and I have a couple of friends who are into this and fair play if that is what rocks there boat
but please dont be so defensive at the slightest post that Urbexers are doing something Illegal

Trespassing is Illegal in the UK

Your right I should of reworked the first one I tend to go overboard trying all sorts before finally plumping for the finished image and it has ruined the image this weekend I will rework it
thanks

It may be illegal but you would only be prosecuted if you actually cause damage, I may be wrong but if you gain access through an open door or window you are ok. Mind you I'm no expert.

I didnt mean to sound so defensive in my post its just how I see it.

You are correct Slippery
I was there around Lunchtime and saw only the Guards and site foreman who came up and informed me that what I was doing was Illegal
I failed to see how stood 200yds away on a public footpath taking pics of an empty building 'outside' the security fencing

no worries Slippery
after my 'run in' with them if thats the way they carry on with people doing nothing wrong at all they can get take a running jump as far as I am concerned

Tresspassing is NOT a criminal offence, breaking and entering is.
When it is said that Urbexers dont break in it is meant they dont cause damage to get it, I have been on quite a few explores and there is always a way in without breaking and entering.

+1 on that.

Trespassing is Illegal in the UK

There is a very thin line between illegal and legal.

Technically there are two types of trespass - civil and criminal.

Criminal Trespass is on locations such as MoD sites, royal sites, parliamentary sites and railways. This is VERY illegal, and you can be prosecuted pretty easily for this.

Civil Trespass is trickier. To be convicted of civil trespass, there has to be evidence you broke in and caused damage to property. Even if caught on a site, most security will just escort you off the site. If police do it, they mostly just take a name for paperwork's sake.

I do urbex and I can say that some of them DO break into places. Who do you think makes all those convenient entry points that urbexers "find" and use? Most, however, are completely harmless and care for the places much more than the owners usually do, many of whom neglect places and wait for a terrible fire which consumes everything but the insurance policy.

I like your first shot, however it does seem a little soft. The second one is nice, it shows off the conversion of the former Female side Sick & Infirm block in a good light, despite its historical connotations...

The security at High Royds are soft as muck, lovely chaps actually. After being caught inside whilst showing some friends of mine from Manchester around the admin a couple of months ago, we spent a good half hour afterwards lounging on the lawn speaking to the guys, they were asking questions about cameras etc...

Don't tar urban explorers with the "breaking in" brush please.

Just a quick twopenneth on this...

I'd say it was the metal thieves and / or persons wishing to vandalise a building who have the overarching desire to "break" to access a building that is secured.

And fully agree on the care of the buildings... Have seen some shocking neglect of some of the Male side of High Royds, i.e cutting existing external stone window cills from one building to replace those that contractors had broken on another... also, the service tunnels under the corridors are absolutely littered with asbestos pipe casings which have been dumped there from around the site... god knows what the HSE would say if they knew.

Well I can tell you that is the complete opposite of my visit - their the Boss man gave me a load of complete bull about its Illegal taking pics of the building and was in my face saying how would you like it if I came to your private property taking pictures blah blah blah

I pointed out I was stood on a public footpath, and was having none of it so I just walked away and Left him ranting
so I guess you have had a different experience than me - and I never left the public footpath and got a right old ear bashing

Both look good to me, but first is a little soft as has been said before.

visiting, or an inmate   LOL:)

Actually my mother was a sister there and my sister was a nurse there.
Such a pity to see it going to ruin.
I also attended a few party's in the nurses quarters :)

Nice shots Chris, look forward to seeing the reworked first shot looks to have lots of potential !
