Hitech 100 Filter System adapter rings

I need to purchase a 77mm adapter ring to use with a Tokina 11-16, as I will only be using single filters can I get away with using the standard adapter ring cost approx £15, or is it really necessary for me to purchase the wide angle adapter ring at around £40.
