Hitech First time buyer help!

Hi guys iv been considering getting a few nd filters both grads and solid nd's for a while now and have heard good things about the hitech system.

I have a few questions regarding the system if anyone can help me out before i buy.

I will be using a 50D with tamron 17-50 2.8 and a 70-200L and am looking to buy the 10-22 canon in the future.

My questions are

1,What size do i buy? 100mm or 85mm also iv seen 150mm
2,what holder do i buy? and what do i look for in a holder
3,how do i avoid vignette ?
4,Is hard or soft best for my camera ? iv heared soft dont work well on cropped sensors?
5,which 10 stop would u recomend to use with this system im on a budget tho :(

1. 100mm
2. Lee foundation kit - much more solidly built and is the right size for the 100mm Hitech filters
3. you'll need a wide angle adapter ring - they cost a bit more but resolve the issue
4. depends on the situation - I've got hard
5. get a screw in, not slot in, for 10stop - you don't want any risk of light leakage

what is the purpose of the 150mm they seem to be cheaper ? or is that just my mind lol

can you recomend where to buy this stuff from?
 
I just got my Hitech filters from Teamwork Digital.

As an example, soft edge would be better for landscape where there horizon is not flat, i.e mountainous, and hard edge for seascapes where the horizon is flat.

WOW £200 quid for the full setup it better be worth it!!! roll on pay day :) lol

I bought the soft edge grads first and then have bought the nd/hard grad kit like the bottom one youve linked as i want to shoot seascapes. I have used the soft grads so far but not the other stuff as of yet thanks to the crappy weather but they seem great. Teamwork are excellent and i also bought my 10 stop Heliopan ND from them. Great service all round:)

thanks for your help so far guys iv chopped and changed my mind about 100 times so far on what im buying lol.

I have one more question tho with regards to a polarizer can i buy a 67mm and attach that to my lens then attach the hitech kit to this? or will i need to buy the expensive 105mm and attach to the end of the kit?

If i have to buy the 105mm can anyone recomend a decent priced one as im going over budget :(

a 105mm CPL will fit all lens diameters up to this size whereas the 67mm will only fit a 67mm diameter lens

decent priced one? keep an eye on eBay and get lucky, I managed to get my Lee for under £60 as part of a job lot and selling on another couple of the items I didn't want

again, if you get a lens bigger than 67mm in the future it won't fit so you'll be shelling out on a 72mm, 77mm and 82mm etc

secondarily you would have to adjust your CPL first, then when adjusting your NDG angle make sure you only rotate the holder without affecting the CPL
