I am still using my Redsnapper 284 and RSH 12 ballhead, which is not light when it comes to hiking.

Looking at DCstuffs on Ebay, there are quite a lot of options with regards to tripods and two look very good. Much lighter than Redsnapper, carbon fibre and pretty much similer height to Redsnapper. Even though I am 6.4ft tall I will be hard pressed to find one that is in eyeline height and not mega heavy or expensive.

Both below should be enough to cope with my existing camera gear.The 157 is a bit shorter, but not too bad and does lose a lot of weight. Obviously, I would like to lose the weight I have in my Redsnapper as that is getting heavy lugging it up hills all day long so losing 500G from something like a tripod that hands far on the back side of the bag I think would be very beneficial.

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are regarding these tripods?

I have a C-257 and J-2 head and they are both excellent. Quality is top drawer, night and day compared to your RedSnapper (as you'd expect for the price). I would buy the same again.

There's lots of choice on that site but the differences are in the various designs, and if you compare like for like (height, number of sections, diameter of tubes etc) the stability is the same.

If you want light weight, maybe a carbon Benro with the rather nice Arca-Swiss P0 head? Thinking of getting one of those myself, not as expensive as you might think from Arca :) http://www.robertwhite.co.uk/product.asp?P_ID=2724&PT_ID=326

I believe it's basically the same as the more expensive J-2, but the B-2 has the friction and lock controls independent, while the J-2 has a (presumably) more complex internal mechanism that combines them both in one control. Makes it a bit faster to use.
 
Last time I looked at Benro's the 1xx series had thinner legs and with that many sections this may not be a good thing. I'd go for 257 - it is pretty much an equivalent of your Redsnapper but lighter.
