Holiday Lens

This may have already been covered but...

If you were to take a lens on a family holiday, what would it be ?

Going on a family holiday and I am not keen on taking everything what with weight issues and of course safety/theft so I would like to know what other would do or take, do I take my whole kit bag, tripod, monopod or just camera and one lens ??

As realspeed says, it depends on what you have got. If its a Nijkon then the 18-200mm is quite nice, good image quality and focal length, I had a Tamron 18-250mm with a Pentax body and that was a great holiday combination, the new Tamron 18-270mm looks quite good and I have seen these quite cheap, £299.

I would go for a wide fast prime.
