Home insurance is due for renewal.
Currently with Direct Line and as per usual, the renewal that they sent is approx 50% more than what I managed to find from a quick search on a 'price comparison site'.

The 'cheapest' supplier (e-home, in case you were wondering), is not someone that I have heard of.
Additionally, I was wanting to get my camera equipment as named items (total replacement value > £3k).

Anyone have any recommendations? Have you had to make any claims? Interested in hearing from those that have had to make a claim and which company you were with, good or bad experiences. :rules:

FWIW, insurance due 9 Jan, so I got 3-4 days from now .....

Thanks

(Mods, not sure if this is the right place, please move accordingly)

I use Saga and all my gear in coverd,I droped my EOS350 about 2 tears ago and they replaced it with a 400D without any problems. Just sent me a payment card thai took to the shop abd got the new can.And the new cam was on offer as kitset so got it for less so i diddent even have to stump up the excess lol even had some cash left so got a new memory card for it

I looked at ehome then quickly looked else where, they handle everything through email, if you want to ring them its a premium rate number.

I had exactly the same as you. Directline seem to be "punishing" their existing customers this year, hoping they'll not bother to look.

I started off with a quote from them of about £88 a month. Called them up and told them how ridiculous that was, and in the end got it down to about £52 a month.

Then used one of the price comparison websites and ended up paying £29 a month with someone else.

i have all ways used norwich union (aviva now i think)
no problems when i had to make a water damage claim a few years back but there latest quote was a fair bit higher than usual
i shopped around and got better cover with axa better all singing all dancing policy etc and about 10-00 a month cheaper

If you call them, they have the ability to reduce the premium by 30% without any hassle!!! :cuckoo:

Got that as a backstop, but was wanting to make sure that my gear is covered should there be any reason to claim.

e-home have beed discarded - no interest
Aviva considerably more expensive. :bang:
Prudential not too bad (in the top 5 on the price comp site)

Have you gone on line and re-inputted your details with Direct Line - I did this for 3 years running and got a significant reduction from their re-newal price. Nothing underhand or any changes at all, just a little time spent and a discount got.

I was with DL for best part of 20 years for my car insurance, through one thing and another - mainly cost ad the fact if you contacted them, everything seemed too much trouble for them, I've swopped to NFU Mutual and I must say, they were very competitively priced and extreemley helpfull, have recomended them now to several friends

I got my home insurenct last month and the cheapeast at the time was the AA so thats who I'm with not had to claim yet but i did ad extras onto my package, such as personal cover of £5,000+ which includes accidental damage and theft covers the camera and i've got lowest excess of £50 i know what im like for breaking stuff.

I'm leaving Direct Line after the saga of trying to deal with them following a claim. Their operators lied to me several times and I only found out because I kept pushing and eventually raised a complaint. The same thing happened when trying to sort my ex-partners car insurance. They are an organisation I just can't trust any more.

With Direct Line. Renewal quoted price is always excessive and is designed to profit from those too lazy to shop around.
My wife always looks up their price on the DL website (always lower) then phones the renewals number and gets them to match it. Never been refused.

As for service, DL have been excellent both for the car and house. Had a potentially tricky claim when an allegedly drunk driver took out one neighbours fence, our brick pillar (which crashed into the front of our car causing extensive damage) and fence, and our other neighbours walls. DL sorted it out very quickly and we have the car, fence and pillar repaired, our neighbours are still haggling as their insurers haven't even settled enough to rebuild the walls!

I ended up with insure4retirement.

And no i'm not a pensioner, or even over 50 :D:D

I got comparable cover for a lot less.

Only claim I have ever had to make was with NU (Aviva) and they were fine.

Mixed reports about DL ....
Anyone had experience of having to claim photographic equipment from them?
The items I got are considerably more than before and I am looking to combine my home insurance to cover it as opposed to getting seperate cover ....
