Hey Guys.

im wanting to make a temp studio in my backroom.

its not that big but i just want to set up a basic set up for portrait and also to take pictures of my 1 year old.

what kind of equipment would i need.

i have a sony alpha 350 and 18-70mm lens and also a vivitar lens that goes upto 200mm.

what kind of lighting and also backdrop would i need.

do you know what i mean.

Hope to get some answers soon,

(also i wasnt sure what board to put this in so i have just put it here.)

A good basic studio lighting setup is available from jessops(portaflash) or interfit for around £250, backgrounds can be anything you like, I use a double sided one from Karlu which doesnt crease costs about £120 but look out for offers as I got mine for £65

i think the jessops portaflash kit is now down to around £199 its summit im looking at but dont know if it would be worth it.. i am pretty skint...

saving up for one but only got around £40 at the mo... would you say it would be worth getting this kit?

I think only you can answer this andi , how much use would it get ,are you going to take a lot of portraits, have you a room that gets some good natural light, they make the best natural shots if you are new to this.

The room i will be using will have a window opposite the person who will be getting photographed so the window will be facing the person.

if you look through my posts (there's not that many....yet) my first attempt at portrait photography was with white sheets, a kit lens and a £20 cheapo flash.

you dont need that much except lots of light, i bounced the flash off of the walls and ceiling and have had lots of compliments.

my second attempt was with a studio kit i got as a wedding gift and was alot harder to set up and a little more restrictive, possibly due to it all being new to me, i have no doubt i'll improve on it eventually

thanks for the info... where did you get your cheap flash and would it work with a sony alpha (im still a newbie to all this)

just my local camera shop, pretty sure any camera shop would have them as they are totaly universal, there was no control over power etc, just slight colour temp (3 settings, white, tugsten and blue)
