Hood for 17-85mm dark edges

I recently bought a petal type lens hood (3rd party) for a Canon 18-75mm IS lens. When the lens is at its widest there is a tiny bit of dark hood showing in the viewfinder at each edge.

Do I need to purchase an original Canon one (which I cant afford so I wont!!) or does anyone else have one that shows clear at 18mm that they can recommend please. 67mm filter size.

I've got a third party petal hood from my Canon 17-85mm IS and I have never noticed this problem.
It was quite cheap from a UK ebayer who I have purchased from quite a few times.
I've just check but she only has the Canon genuine currently in stock @ £22.50.
