Hello.

Ive been looking at getting a hood for my 400D with a 18-55mm lens. Ive read a few reviews and a lot of people are saying the petal hood design is no good with the 18-55mm lens as the hood spins with the auto focus. Does anyone here have that problem? Would it be worth me just getting a round hood instead of the petal design?

Yes, that is correct. A petal-shaped hood is not appropriate for that lens. That is why the hood for that lens is not petal-shaped.
 
I have a canon 55-250 and the correct hood with it and this spins with the auto focus! It's fine if you hold the barrel whilst fitting it but if you want to reverse the hood to just to carry it then you cant hold the barrel!! If that makes any sense at all!!

Its not the fact that it moves thats the issue, its the fact its petal shaped thats the problem. The 55-250 hood is round, not petal shaped as is the 18-55 hood.

OP - just use the hood specified for the lens!
