Do you like a good, scary horror film? One that genuinely scares is a rare gem indeed.
For fans of The Exorcist, a tv series based on it premiers at the end of September.

I do but i'd have to say my faves at the moment, are still Rec. and rec. 2, mainly because I've a memory like a sieve and it's a thing I need investigated, seriously.

I loved Halloween, Blair witch, Cloverfield and the Grudge, seen numerous others but like I say, memory is goosed.

I do like the Conjuring for 'modern' films, but also the spanish Rec

Not really that keen on them these days, but I remember that Salem's Lot, and the original Nightmare on Elm St. scared the bejeezuz out of me as a teen.
I dislike films shot in the "found footage" style (Blair Witch, Cloverfield etc.), and I think many horror films now seem to go for the shock and gore factor, rather than true scares.
In my opinion, implied horror (or menace, as it's called by the BBFC) is much scarier than blood, guts and gross out horror.

Call me a wimp if you like, but i can't watch horrors, the last 'horror' i watched was the remake of Dawn of the dead, and i watched that at around 7am hoping i would have forgot about it by bedtime lol.

Rec and Rec 2 were great, in fact the latter had me jumping out of my seat! The 3rd was awful, and the 4th is pretty good actually.

That reminds me, a brilliant horror suitable for children is The Watcher in the Woods.

I also like the woman in black.

I like Japanese horror movies, not the toture porn ones specifically but ones like Dark Water, but then again I'm a big fan of East Asian cinema

I like the old British b/w scary films, especially science fiction. Or at a push, the old b/w American ones, and most deffo before the shoot em ups.

Not really scary and probably more thriller, but Peeping Tom from early 60s is good, and really like the Ghoul too with Boris Karloff.

Oh, I'd forgotten about that one! (Peeping Tom)

One of my all time favourite authors is Shirley Jackson and one of my favourite books is "The haunting of hill house" which is an outstanding book. It's been filmed at least twice and I think that the older "The Haunting" is much better than the more recent film which is IMO awful. The earlier film deviates from the book and unnecessarily so IMO.

Of the more modern ones I found "The Mist" creepy and also...
Fallen (but I'd drop the silly voiceover which I think spoils it.)
It follows.
Absentia.
The Pact (2012.)
And the original Woman in black, not the more recent remake.

I too liked "Rec" and another foreign language film I found disturbing is "Martyrs." I recently watched the American remake and thought it rubbish.

Wrong turn. I love it in a classical sense. You know a creep chasing a topless woman who is screaming.

The mrs loves them I'm not so keen. It's very rare for horrors to actually scary. The conjuring was pretty good though. As is the shinning. And the Spanish film the orphanage.

The only hhorror films that I can't stand are any with Adam Sandler in them... Anger Manament, Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy, well anything with him in it.

I do like the Hammer House of Horror catalogue and similar

Anythinhg with Vincent Price in them.....

Martyrs is the most disturbing film I've ever seen. It stayed with me for ages I couldn't stop thinking about it.

Never heard of it. Had a look on Sky and it's available to rent for 3.49. So, I'll watch it this week.

Seems like a worthwhile watch, I read the synopsis there.

One I thought ok, was 'lovely molly', I think that was the title

There is a film called Phantasm which still sends a shiver down my back, it's probably not at all scary but the memory of the jawa type creatures and their guttural noises is enough to stop me watching it again. Funny how some things stay with you, I'm going back to hide behind the settee now ;)

I know its more sci-fi than horror, but back when I first watched it at the cinema, Alien scared the s**t out of me. Suspense? just a bit.

What possibly 70's film had some little people drag someone into a cupboard and through an air conditioning hatch at the end of it? Always wanted to see that again. I was never good with horror as a kid, as I used to drop off then wake up for the last 5 minutes.

Sounds like Don't Be Afraid of the Dark http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069992/?ref_=nv_sr_2 Needless to say it was remade in 2010, haven't seen the remake so can't comment on it but the original was pretty scary.

My favourite horrors - the original and John Carpenter versions of The Thing (the blood testing scene in Carpenter's version has got to be one of the most nerve wracking scenes ever filmed), the original version of The Haunting, The Shining and The Mothman Prophecies.

Not much of a horror fan but there are a few I like - Let the right one in (just a great film IMO, whatever the genre), Ginger snaps and Near dark. Also Pan's labyrinth, if that counts as horror.

Love horrors but haven't seen a good one for years. Unfortunately my wife won't watch them which means I rarely do either. Seen a few Celtic champions league games which gave me nightmares right enough !!

Are celtic still playing?:banana::LOL:

The Devils Backbone. Watched it once. Will never watch it again. It was fantastic but f*** me was it affecting.

Don't have TV, but it doesn't really matter. I'm not interested in the horror genre and my wife doesn't like it. She's still traumatised by the daleks from the 60s when she was a child...

Not had much competition lately though, maybe gibralter.:):banana::LOL:

Horror films are often slightly comical more than frightening, can't recall one that scared me

The serial killer in Silence Of The Lambs was very unpleasant and the ending of Carrie made me jump. Seven was very grim as was Alien, both dark and gloomy, more depressing than scary

I saw Carrie in the cinema years ago with a girlfriend. I'd seen the film so knew what was going to happen. At the right moment I touched her wrist with an ice-lolly :D

That relationship didn't last.

Not so keen on modern horror films which seem more of an exercise in finding different (and increasingly gory) ways of killing the victims.

The Exorcist is probably my favourite, albeit a bit dated now, and The Changeling (Edward Woodward one) which is more of a ghost story than a horror.

My favourite horror authors are Clive Barker and H. P. Lovecraft.
