The first one is a bit to light and exposes the blending imperfections.

#2 works far better though! (y)
Maybe try increasing the size of your smoke trails though so they are more proportionate to the peppers.
 
To be honest I can see what you were going for with the first to but because there is no reason for them to be smoking and the smoke is just magically appearing from random point's it's not working for me :shrug:

Check out the stuff done in this thread posted recently it's on the same kind of vein as what you've done but it takes it to another level and I think makes for a very compelling and quite stunning image (y)
