Hoverflies and my thanks to Hacker

I recently treated myself to a macro lens and was having mixed feelings about the results. Then I came across Hacker's tutorial on High Pass sharpening and tried it on some photos I took today of hoverflies. I am pleased with the results and will be out tomorrow chasing flies again. The Hover flies were really obliging and kept very still until I had finished with them!

Good shots. I will have to try to work out how to do Hackers tutorial. I just tried it but couldnt do it.It has certainly worked well for you.

I tried High pass a few times ages ago and could not see a difference so dont think I was doing it right. These flies seemed to respond to using vivid rather than hard light when chosing blending mode.
Maybe it didn't work so well for you because your shots are sharp already, I have very shaky hands unless I am shooting sport and then I dont have time to think "steady"!

Definately like #1 - focus is great. Love his little leg at the bottom and how he's hanging off the flower.
