These are a couple of photo's from 2006 when I was in US for work, but managed to get a Sunday off to go to Washington DC. Unfortunately at that time I only had my compact Fujifilm Finepix F10. Could you be so kind as to give me some ideas how these could have been better (angles, colours etc). Thanks.

Nothing wrong there, compositionaly. To me anyway, a bit of editing and there great shots. Carry on as you are.
 
Not sure how you were constrained in taking the shots but maybe you could have positioned the camera lower, so the water jets were set against the sky and you took in some close foreground.

Just a thought, and I am no expert!
 
1st needs some sort of lines to lead you in.
2nd the background is far lighter than the subject, this detracts
 
I like the squirrel pic best but thats just me, did you use any filters on the first 2?

No filters, shots taken with compact camera like I said in original message.:D
