Thought I had stopped the Stepsons wireless acess a couple of nights back as a small punishment. I disabled the wireless on the router, I see this morning that the router is going crazy. Checking it out his computer is connected but showing under " Connected DHCP LAN Clients " his PC name 192.168.1.2 Yet he has no hard wire connection. Any ideas? I am probably missing something.

So is someone else, like a neighbour or something using your wireless router?

Turn on MAC filtering and only enter your machines details. Sure it's an arse adding new machines but it should stop any amateurs.

Also is it one of those daft routers that only change settings after you power cycle it?

It might have been my fault Neil. The other day I just unchecked the wireless network in the router software, seems like it did not have any effect. If I remember when I asked TalkTalk about me not being able to use the Mac filter for blocking it, I think he mentioned that was because they do not have a static address, but I could be wrong. Anyhow for temp measures I ran the setup again and did not enable wireless so I will check later when he goes to use it. Not the neighbours, in fact the opposite as I have built five PC`s along our rank and have the internet passwords for all of them

MAC address filtering should prevent access by unauthorised devices. It is possible to spoof a MAC address though.
