an invite to go shoot a charity do with a charity for free (that bit - i have no problem with, given I already support the charity)............ but they will also provide me with and I quote "a snazzy camera as our of our members is a photographer......"

:gag:

Quite honestly, i don't have the 'bestest' DSLR there is, nor the poshest lenses, but i know how they work with each other..........to provide decent results (sometimes)

now I could turn up to some 1D Mk IV lovliness with L glass, or a dirty Nikon with Nikkor fast glass........ but I kind of got the impression their definition of "snazzy" meant I couldn't sent a text message from it........

Still, i am offering to do it, providing I can use my kit. ;)

Stick to what you know and love :)

The offered
a snazzy camera as our of our members is a photographer......
could be OK but could be ..........

They will want good pics from you, so you definitely want to use kit you know instead of fiddling about with kit you don't know even if , having seen it , you know its reputation .

There's nowt wrong with a Pentax :D :D

No problem taking your stuff along and seeing what's offered, then deciding.

I suspect they intend to lend you a camera, if one of their members is a photographer why are they asking you?

Would you lend your camera to a random stranger? (no offence Lynton!).

Take your gear and see what you get offered, it may be an awful camera that you get offered anyway!

Now I know I'm a cynical old codger but.........

Their provision of a 'snazzy camera' is most peculiar. I can't help feeling that there is some ulterior motive at work here. Could it be that the owner of the said 'snazzy camera' mistakenly thinks that your shots, on their camera, will be their's to do as they wish. A way for them to 'acquire' copyright.

Now I know that is not how copyright works before anyone has a go at me ;) But I'm trying to fathom the rationale behind this peculiar arrangement. There has to be a reason behind this arrangement

I can't wait to find out what the 'snazzy camera' is.

Are they wanting to provide the equipment so that they maintain the copyright ??

Just a thought....

Steve

Wouldn't make any difference - and yes: we all know that, but they might think otherwise...

Because their "photographer" has to be in the picture..... and I think from the email that their definition of a photographer meant someone who has a camera that is also not a phone........

If I was in the same room and wanted to be in the picture - yes. In fact, was covering the Norwich Sci0fi festival yesterday (don't go there!) as a favour as a very good friend organised it and ended up raising about £9k for charity, and was quite odd in a way, but also quite nice that a lot of people saw me wandering around with a "big camera" and asked me if I could take pics of them with a dalek or whatever  with their cameras..... couldn't resist taking a few off the "green button though"

As of yet, no reply........ :'(

Nor can I, and as its a freebie - I assume a cheque being handed over etc and it may make the local rag on a quiet day, I have no interest whatsoever in copyright etc........... it's not like I have a scoop shot of Johnny Depp and Tom Cruise (2 random actors chosen) in a compromising situation.....*

* and no I am not suggesting anything untowards there whatsoever.......

however, all seems to have died a death...... so I guess we'll never find the snazzy camera

oops apologies was a "swish one", not a "snazzy one"

whatever1-1.jpg

however, my services, are not required.......

Just finding it extremely odd, that asking a photographer to turn up and be provided with a camera............ bit like taking the car for a service and "bring your own oil and spanners mate"

So their idea of a snazzy camera could be a ten year old Nikon coolpix if thats the case.
I'd suggest lending their photographer a tripod show him self timer (if he doesn't know about it) and stand back. then when it turns out he hasn't a clue and probably has an entry level camera as well I'd offer my PAID services.

Honestly, in this case £££ is not the problem or issue, i would have done it for nothing......... (yes and kept a pro hungry for the day:lol:..... I just find it odd that they are asking someone who they know is a keen amateur (wannabee semi pro / weekend warrior / would love to be a full time pro call it what you like, but a good few £K of stuff in a bag and then providing me with a camera.......:shrug::shrug::shrug:

Have you any idea what the gear that the member who was so generously going to lend their ' rather swish camera' actually has ?

um from the comments above no, but I'll bet my mortgage it wasn't a IDsMK III or a D3x/s and if it were, they would probably have been disappointed with the results given my knowledge of either

Using a strange unknown camera for a job is a big no no, you haven't a clue what the owner has altered or custom set, if you don't know it you might end up looking a right wally if it takes crap pics or you can't figure it out.
I'd stick with your own camera whatever it is, at lest you know how it works and how to alter the settings.

100% agree, which is why i wasn't overly fussed about not doing it...
