I have a Lowepro 200 bag and Giottos tripod with bag and strap, but find I cannot comfortably carry both easily for long distances. This is mainly due to the tripod being slung over my shoulder when the bag is on my back, inevitably causing the tripod to keep sliding off my shoulder. I wondered if there was any fix for this like an extra strap to enable the tripod to be securely fixed to the bag when walking some distance. I saw something in a magazine suggesting an extra strap with "p clips" but didn't understand. Anyone got any ideas please?

It would help if you could tell us which Lowepro bag you have. Fastpack 200, Flipside 200, Micro trekker 200, Daypack 200 etc....
I've got a Fastpack 350 which has a mesh pocket at the bottom of one side which a tripod leg fits in then I tie off the top of the tripod to the top carry handle.

Exactly what I do! Although occasionally I will slip the tripod under the straps over the accessory pocket. This does make the bag wider though, so usually only when in the great outdoors (and no stiles in view!)

Smaller tripod like the Velbon Ultra range, I've got an Ultra Luxi which isn't a problem using the mesh pocket/strap on a Flipside 400. Find its stable enough for most purposes and sometimes you just have to compromise.
If I really need the big old Manfrotto it gets carried with one hand balanced on top of my shoulder, bit of foam pipe lagging makes for a more comfortable and warmer grip. I do have the shoulder strap for it, but not overly impressed and has long since been removed.

I usually just carry my tripod in my hand when I'm out and about. Or strap it to my bag. I only use the case to protect it in the boot of my car.

The updated Lowepro Slinghsot range allow you attached a tripod onto the right hand side.
I've got the 302AW and my Velbon Sherpa tripod fits nicely.
They've now fitted a proper waist strap rather than the one that clips onto the sling strap and I find it very comfortable with and without my tripod.
