How do I extract particular files from a backup?

Hi,
I have been backing up regularly and would like to extract a load of shots i took some time ago. When I browse the external hard drive i just get a list of zipped files that give me no clue as to what I am looing for. What I was hoping to find was pretty much the same as normal browsing, names,dates etc. Can it be done?!

If you're using Windows you should be able to see the zipped files in the left hand pane of an Explorer window. Click on one of these and it should act as a folder with the files appearing in the right hand pane. You can copy individual files to a separate location to restore them.
